Anthony Weiner Resignation News Conference

Anthony Weiner Second News Conference - June 16, 2011 - Announcing his resignation from Congress.

Twenty years ago, began Weiner, he asked neighbors to take a chance on him. Seven years later, he asked the same neighbors to send him to Congress. Weiner went on to state that he never forgot his neighbors who represent the same life story as he does in regards to living in New York and thus, once again, he apologized to neighbors, his constituents, and particularly to wife, Huma Abedin.

Weiner said he hoped to continue working for people, however, he decided to resign form Congress because of his adverse actions. He wants people to heal from damage he has caused – this is most important to him.

Weiner thanked his Democratic and Republican colleagues. He also said he was grateful for his staff members who did not receive much in the way of pay for helping him due to the nature of their service. He also thanked his parents, brother, and wife for standing with him through this difficult time.

Weiner also stated that he will continue to contribute time serving in order to help assure New Yorkers are able to live up to their beliefs.

During his speech, hecklers in the background yelled out negative innuendos. For the most part, the scoffing remarks came immediately after Weiner announced he would resign.

During his speech, Weiner took full responsibility for his wrongdoing and specifically made it clear that he, not the media or anyone else, created his troubles.

Unlike the first sexting scandal conference, during which Weiner spoke and took questions for roughly 20 minutes, his resignation news conference lasted only about five minutes.
