President Obama Awards Medal of Honor

President Obama awards Medal of Honor to Sargeant Leroy Petry. Petry saved two fellow soldiers despite suffering injuries himself. He accomplished this feat by lifting a grenade with his hand in order to throw it away from himself as well as the fellow soldiers. The grenade blew up and amputated his hand.

Despite suffering injuries himself, prior to handling the live grenade, Petry had the courage, drive, and clarity of mind to grab the grenade in order to toss it away.

His prior injuries came while engaging the enemy and sustaining shots to both of his legs. Before saving the injured fellow soldiers from the unexpected grenade, Petry had moved them to safety in the courtyard and then proceeded to battle the enemy on his own.

The 150th anniversary of the Medal of Honor takes place this year and a special coin is being devised in honor of the award. Petry is the second living Medal of Honor recipient since the Vietnam War.

West Insults Wasserman
Debbie Wasserman Schultz criticized Republican Representative Allen West (who represents 1000s of senior citizens) for voting to increase costs for Medicare recipients. In return West sent Schultz an email in which he referred to her as vile, unprofessional, and despicable; and said that she has proven repeatedly that she is not a lady. For these reasons, he stated she does not deserve his respect. Schultz and Wasserman serve office in the same district. Schultz is the chair of the Democratic National Committee. The irony is that West claims Schultz owes 'him' an apology! Is this sexism?

Maxine Waters Assists Allen West's Brother In Job Search
Congressman Allen West compared (certain) Democratic leaders to plantation overseers of African American communities out of one side of his mouth even as the other side of his mouth sent his brother to a congressional jobs fair. The irony here is that the jobs fair was put together by the Congressional Black Caucus that consists of the same Democratic leaders West called slave overseers. West said that the Democratic leaders represented a 21st century plantation in which they took African American voters for granted. Adding that he represented Harriet Tubman, West suggested that he would free the people from their bondage by leading them through the underground railroad.

Held today (August 18, 2011) in Atlanta, the jobs summit was slated to pair up several thousands of jobs with employers looking for workers. Over 5,000 hopeful job seekers stood in line for hours during this employee hiring event.

Curious as to why West's brother, Arlan, did not get a job from West, Waters asked him for clarification. The brother told Waters that Congressman West had specifically sent him to ask her for a job.

During an interview with Chris Matthews on MSNBC, Waters said that the Black Caucus believes the most significant thing President Obama could do to help the excessively high rate of unemployment in Black communities would be to use the infrastructure bank to repair roads and such. Waters also listed other things the President could do such as bringing jobs back to America from overseas; noting that third world labor markets are exploiting our jobs including call center positions. She also suggested that the stimulus package had not been big enough adding that the President should be bold and put forth a bigger package. Waters noted that the talk about all the previous jobs had not materialized in the form of work in the Black community.

On a side note, Waters said that people do not like that the Tea Party has gained so much influence [in Washington]; and that she does not want the President to compromise as he did with the debt ceiling or tax cut issues previously confronting his administration.
