Is President Obama Eating His Peas?

Taking off on President Obama's general statement a few months ago about eating our peas, last month I posted a Letter to the President in which I asked him to eat his peas while dealing with the radical Republican Congress.

The American Jobs Act he is currently offering to put people back to work, as well as to extend payroll tax cuts and other economy elevating criteria, without surprise, is meeting with opposition from Congress. Initially, some of the "leading" Republicans tried to feign their willingness to work with President Obama on the jobs bill. Anyone who has been paying attention for the last three years, however, should be aware that this is a part of their usual mode of operation. The Republicans have habits of either downright rejecting President Obama's requests or pretending to be on board, at first, and then proceeding to cut down his plans within hours to days later.

The way in which President Obama is handling his jobs plan, in my opinion, is the way he should have handled it from the beginning of his presidency. Reasonable, still, would have been his moving in this direction six months to within one year of his presidency. His need to "work together" should NOT have superseded his need to put America back to work. In furtherance, there is no reason why he could not or should not have worked the jobs issues concurrently with the Affordable Care Act.

I believe that if President Obama continues the road he is on now, calling out Republican obstructionists on their own turf, for examples in Columbus Ohio and Raleigh North Carolina, his approval ratings will rise again because people will see him out there trying to create jobs and fighting to improve this sour economy. The problem now, of course, is that the President took so-o-o-o long to get out there that he allowed the Republicans to brainwash more and more Americans along the way - including some reasonable minded citizens. Exposing GOP radicals two years ago could have made a big difference in how legislation, such as raising of the debt ceiling, would have played out. Perhaps America would not have lost its triple A rating status had the President put down his foot a lot sooner.

What the American people need now is for President Obama to continue down the road he is currently traveling. We need that President who came to fight for the people to show himself from this day forward. We do NOT need that guy who acts like he must operate in a bipartisan way. True... President Obama's platform stated his desire to work with the other side before we elected him. He told us over and over how the United States did not consist of red states and blue states but as both colors together. Unfortunately, President Obama had to learn the hard way that, despite his vision of what our country truly is or truly could be, he must fight fire with fire in order to help to keep the United States great! The fantasy of who we are must take a side seat to performing the highest job as the President of the United States. Therefore, President Obama must continue on his current path. This way, and only this way, will the President be able to show the public his willingness to eat his peas...
