Although expectations had been that President Obama would
speak in Ohio
ahead of Governor Romney on June 14, 2012, the opposite occurred. At a podium in Cincinnati,
at Seilkop Industries, Romney threw in with his usual
attacks against the President stating that 1) Obama would be giving
a speech on another side of Ohio
and 2) that his words would sound quite eloquent despite his failure to improve the economy.
Although the correct facts are that President Obama's policies have aided
in improving the economy, Romney is not one to let facts get in
his way. After all, Romney spent the last 14 years either running for or holding a political office and yet he claims not to be a politician!
Albeit it true that too many Americans, as well as businesses,
are still suffering from post Bush years of a deep recession,
President Obama's policies have had a positive impact on the economy.
The President has managed to save/create millions of jobs; to
save the auto industry--which by the way impacts the livelihoods of
many businesses that contribute to automobile-making, and for
those who may not have noticed... many stocks are booming as well due
to this President... Checked out the stock market lately!
In furtherance, President Obama's aggressive plans and
policies would be even more effective and millions more Americans would be
able to find jobs had not our obstructive do-nothing Republican held
Congress been holding the President's jobs bill hostage. Let us not
forget, also, about all the public employees that have been laid off
or let go mostly by Republican officials... These acts have caused unnecessary slowing of our economic recovery.
Now, what I really want to discuss for the most part in this
post is Governor Romney's use of the word "eloquent"
during this Ohio
speech.
I don't know what others think, but somehow I do not believe
that I am the only one who detects racial undertones when Romney
says things like, "eloquent", or "nice guy", or
"over his head" while referring to President Obama; and thus, aside from the lies he told
during his speech, his insistence upon using this type of rhetoric
perturbed me once again...
Spewing out the word "eloquent" in reference to the President's speaking abilities is an act that
has come to regularly frequent media mouths these days; and thus, those who follow politics are likely to hear the term now and again. The thing is
that although use of the word, in and of itself, may not have a bearing
on whether a person saying it about President Obama is using it in a derogatory fashion, this type of labeling annoys me in general whenever I
hear it because while growing up, I heard too many Caucasians use terms like this
to or about Blacks in condescending manners. It was if they were singling out those Blacks from the
rest of the African American race... As if they were suggesting that those eloquent
speakers, or nice guys and girls, or smart ones, were not "as
bad as" the rest of the group... [Well... at least not for these particular types of
acceptable traits anyway.] It was as though some people believed that if you
were White and dumb... you must have a problem... if you were Black and dumb... Well... That was expected... But if you were Black and smart... Well... You were unusual....
In that hearing the use of these
kinds of words or phrases during discussions about African Americans still troubles me till this
day... reminds me that this type of language is often cluttered
with racial undertones... whenever I hear Mitt Romney speaking about President Obama this way, I
believe he is attempting to address the racist portion of his base while, at the same time, not allowing his verbiage to become too vulgarly hostile in hopes that it will go undetected...
especially by Blacks who apparently are not that smart anyway... I mean Romney ain't gonna say, "That Black so-and-so doesn't know what
the heck he's talking about!" After all, he is running for President... He is hoping to get at least some of
them thar Blacks to vote for him... Remember what he said about having undocumented workers on his ranch...? He couldn't do that (right now) because he was running for President... for Pete's sake!
At any rate, and thus, during Romney's Ohio
speech, and aside from the fact that he is never forthright as to President Obama's accomplishments in
moving the country forward, I viewed his use of the word
"eloquent" as another slight toward the President's intelligence.
How unfortunate it is that there still exists so many in the US who insist on slighting Black Americans in ways that subtly
suggest the Blacks (as Donald Trump puts it) may be
"somewhat" intelligent, but truly couldn't possibly be "that" smart! This particular problem that I have
with Governor Romney would never allow me to vote for him in a million
years.
I believe that in addition to the fact that Mitt Romney (due perhaps to
his rich Mormon up-bringing) is out-of-touch with everyday
Americans; he is also a greedy racist that will say... and or do...
any and everything to get what he wants... Power! But... if he isn't a greedy racist... then he... especially as a person running for the most powerful office on earth... should stop talking like one...!!
