Wisconsin Democrats Win Two of Three Needed Senate Recalls

Wisconsin Democrats seeking to win a minimum of three state Senate seats on Tuesday wound up their evenings in disappointment as they fell short of their target. Awaiting for the race to be called in which Democratic challenger Sandy Pasch and Republican incumbent Alberta Darling had been trading places to carry the lead as the vote tallies were reported, eventually, Darling was declared the winner. This race inexplicably took longer than each of the other five races causing voters to wonder why.

The wonderment came in light of the fact that in 2008 this same district declared Darling the winner after a Senate vote count had been suddenly delayed in another close race. Prior to that delay, then Democratic opponent Sheldon A. Wasserman had received a few more votes than Darling had. Following the delay, however, County Clerk Kathy Nickolaus said 1007 votes were found (some place in a computer) and thus needed to be added to the tally. Controversial vote counts in this same district also occurred under the direction of  Nickolaus in several previous races.

Although the Democrats came up short with their hopes to gain at least three state Senate seats, they did manage to take two seats away from Republican incumbents.
