Nancy Pelosi said during a weekly briefing this morning, July 8, 2011, that the Republicans have failed to pass any of the jobs bills put before the congress. Numbers ranging from 10 to 20 jobs bills, not passed by the Republican held congress, likely contributed to the dismal jobs growth numbers reported this date.
The jobs numbers came in at 9.2% for the month of June. This is an increase from the 9.1% numbers that came in from May's job numbers. Only 18,000 jobs out of the expected 120,000 jobs were added in the month of June. In a correction, new reports showed that only 25,000 jobs were added in May. This is a large decrease in the 54,000 originally reported for that month.
During her briefing, Pelosi reiterated the Democratic Party does not intend to vote for any bill that calls for decreases in benefits for Social Security. Medicaid would likely be problematic for
Democrats as well. She also stressed that the final budget must not harm the economic growth.
President Obama, said during a short speech, that his Administration added over 2 million jobs over last 18 months. He said that the recession, however, cost Americans over 8 million; and that the economy as a whole is not producing enough jobs for all that are seeking employment. The President also pointed out problems with insufficiently monetized local budgets added to job losses by decreasing employment in the public sector. Positions belonging to teachers, firefighters, and police personnel, for examples, have suffered enormous cuts.
The President added that the American people expect their leaders to act on all good ideas regarding jobs; and pointed out things the that could be done right now to spur jobs growth. The President began to iterate things we could do right now that he had previously put forth during his Presidential News Conference held June 29,2011.
Examples of things to do right now the President mentioned included: (1) adding jobs to replace the 1 million jobs lost in the construction sector. The jobs would include investing in roads, bridges, railways and our infrastructure. (2) We could let entrepreneurs get started with growing innovative business right now by streamlining the patents processes. (3) Bills and trade agreements that currently have bipartisan support could be passed right now that would allow for greater international sales. These actions could help to put our economy on stronger foot for the future as well as allow for investments that would put people to work right now.
The President and legislatures agreed to work through weekend and to meet back at White House by Sunday with a serious plan to deal with the debt and the deficit so that businesses can prepare to hire again and foreign markets can, once again, feel confident about American investments.
On another note, the President added that middle class families could use a bit of piece of mind and security by knowing that tax cuts he signed in December would still be at their disposal next year (2012).
Speaker Boehner also made a short speech stating that the American people are still asking, "Where are the jobs?" Boehner failed to mention, however, the fact that the Republican held House, of which he is a member, has failed to pass any of the jobs bills put before them since they took over the House in 2010. What is worse is that the Republican Party has not offered a single jobs bill of their own! This is in spite of several Republican members being voted into office with promises to their constituents that their first priority would be to create jobs!
Eric Cantor also took the opportunity to approach the microphone and to reiterate his rhetoric about taxes. Once again, Cantor drove in his attempts to brainwash Americans by telling them that raising taxes was not a good idea during a recession. Once again, Cantor failed to mention that tax increases would not impact the poor or the middle class. President Obama's tax increases are "only" intended to impact the wealthy as well as large corporations.
The Republican Party's insistence on brainwashing the American people regarding the truth about tax increases is as good as lying to Americans. Their purpose is to fool the public into believing Republicans so that the GOP can continue allowing the wealthy as well as large corporations to receive enormous tax breaks to which most Americans are not privy. The more tax breaks the Republican Party continues to enforce on behalf of the wealthy and large corporations, the more money the wealthy and large corporations put into the Republican leader's pockets!
One last point to make on the jobs front is that job losses over the last several months, were taken from the public sector, not the private sector. The private sector, in fact, actually added jobs to the market. It is only natural that when Government programs are reduced or completely ended, workers from those sectors of the job market find themselves adding to the statistics of the unemployed job count. (39,000 jobs were taken from the public sector in June.) Thus, higher unemployment numbers for any period during which a significant number of public workers lost their jobs. Those who are against Government should understand the consequences of sudden radical reductions or eliminations of government jobs and government agencies. ALL jobs losses are bad for the current economy!
Telling lies in American politics has spiraled out of control with lying media and politicians taking advantage of free press in ways that steer the country away from its ideals. Since the truth is always out there, the intentions of this blog will be to set the record straight when rhetorical lies occur. This blog will also focus on general issues that bear importance with the American people. Be it gay rights, health care, education, economics, religion, wars, or personal attacks.
